Apple has been emancipated by Steve Jobs.

Six months off for health ailing Apple CEO: Sooner would be the share of the company abgeschmiert. But since then, the computer manufacturer from the charismatic Steve Jobs emancipates - and potential successors such as Tim Cook established.

Steve Jobs is gone. Not forever, just for half a year. This at least has the Apple boss his staff on Wednesday via e-mail (see info box below). A little skepticism is certainly appropriate. From the state of health of the leaders makes Apple has been an almost equally great mystery of how the new gadgets that in the consolidated labs will be developed.

Already it fears the round, Jobs will probably never lead the company. Above all, posits the tech magazine "Wired": "Steve Jobs will probably not come back." Suspicious, according to the magazine, that job until just over a week had only a hormone disturbance to fight - and now for six months out. The long break was unusual for the workaholic: 2004, for example, Jobs had a total of only four weeks from the office adopted - and then he had cancer. That means, in reverse, there are now only get worse for him can stand.

How bad is, however, if the Apple boss would actually change is unclear. If the apple really gutted - as some IT-apocalyptic prophesy? What would become of the company, with the Macintosh, iMac, iPod and iPhone gigantic achievements celebrated when suddenly the missing leader? Would Apple's downfall and the starting signal for the competition, the elite companies from Cupertino finally back market share decline, which in recent years as good as impossible?

"We will meet again in the summer"

At the Apple team,

I'm sure each one of you something very personal links with the Apple community. Unfortunately believes the public interest in my health and not only affects me and my family, but also every employee of Apple.

Moreover, I have in the past week have learned that my health problems are more complex than originally thought.
To my person from the focus of public interest and to me about my health care, and also because I want everyone here on the development of exceptional products can concentrate, I have decided to take a break. By the end of June I will retire to get medical treatment.

I have Tim Cook, the responsibility for the daily business operation. I know that he and the whole team did a great job to make. As CEO, I will continue in all major decisions stretegischen involved. The Board supports me fully in my decision.

I look forward to you all again in the summer.

Steve

The company has been fully pointed, only Steve Jobs into the limelight. Since Jobs Steve Wozniak, together with the Apple computer invented and made a success, he was regarded as a wunderkind of the Silicon Valley, as a guarantee for success. Other Apple-manager, as Phil Schiller or Tim Cook, on the other hand, always swallowed the shadow of their leader.

Apple went so far so good. But what image of Steve Jobs is actually myth - and what is reality? How important is Steve Jobs actually still for Apple?
